Beijing Xiangshan Forum
The Beijing Xiangshan Forum, formerly known as the Xiangshan Forum, was launched by the China Association of Military Sciences (CAMS) in 2006 as a “track 2” platform for Asia-Pacific security dialog. It was upgraded to the “track 1.5” status as of the Fifth Forum in 2014 with a wider spectrum of participants, including defense and military leaders, representatives of international organizations, former government officials, retired senior officers, and renowned academics from within the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
Since the Sixth Forum in 2015, it has been co-hosted by the CAMS and the China Institute of International Strategic Studies (CIISS), and was renamed the Beijing Xiangshan Forum at its Eighth Forum in 2018. It has developed into an important platform for international dialog on security and defense issues, attracting global attention.
Bearing in mind the importance of openness, inclusiveness, mutual learning and cooperation, the Forum is committed to serving as a platform for exchanging ideas, expanding consensus, building mutual trust, and bolstering regional security. It benefits all through dialog on the basis of equality with a focus on new global and regional security trends, new opportunities and new challenges.
The Ninth Forum was convened at the Beijing International Convention Center from October 20 to 22, 2019, with the attendance of more than 1,300 people, including 76 official delegations, 23 defense ministers, six chiefs of staff and representatives of eight international organizations, as well as academics and observers from different countries, and a wide range of topics discussed on the theme of “Maintaining International Order and Promoting Peace in the Asia-Pacific.”
