Basha Miao Village
Located by the Duliu River in Congjiang County, Guizhou Province, Basha Miao Village is a village with distinctive ethnic features, only 7.5 kilometers away from the county seat of Congjiang. There are more than 500 households and more than 2,000 people in the village. Basha is a nature-worshiping tribe that treats trees as gods. Members of the tribe carry knives and guns all the time and would wrap their hair into buns. Their village is an upholder of traditions in the tide of modern civilization. Basha means "a place with lush and diverse vegetation" in the Miao people's language. Since ancient times, the village has been rich in agricultural resources. It mainly produces glutinous rice, red rice, black rice, vegetables, tea, tea tree oil, and waxberry. Here you would be exposed to charm of history, primitive and mysterious folk culture, and the ancient heritage that had been lost for a thousand years.
Basha is known as the "living fossil" and "museum" of the Miao's culture. In 2003, the Shanghai-based Travel Times listed Basha as one of the top ten tourist destinations for singles in China, ranking it fourth only after Lijiang, Dali and Yangshuo. In 2007, Basha was recommended by Chinese National Geographic as one of the 55 tourist destinations that people must visit in their lifetime.
