旗袍

Qipao

The Qipao has its origin in the long robes Manchu people wore in the Qing Dynasty (1616-1911). It evolved into the iconic dress in the years after the founding of the Republic of China (1912-1949), as a result of the fusion of China's multi-ethnic fashion styles. From the 1920s to the late 1940s, the qipao was in vogue and became the most popular women's garment of the time. As time passed, the design of the qipao further evolved and incorporated tailoring details and structural features of Western clothing, making it more international and fashionable. The adapted qipao accentuates female beauty and curves. Fitting the context of women's liberation movement of the time, it grew quickly in popularity.

The qipao is an important example of Chinese fashion. In recent years, Chinese women have been seen wearing the qipao on many international occasions, exhibiting its elegance and beauty.
