敦煌纪录片
1954年，许珂编导的纪录片《敦煌壁画》在中央新闻纪录电影制片厂出品，这是中国第一部敦煌主题的纪录片。1980年，日本放送协会（NHK）和中国中央电视台（CCTV）联合制作的纪录片《丝绸之路》上映，该片走进古代贯穿欧、亚的丝绸之路，探索其间的壮丽景观、历险故事、文化艺术及沿途人民生活状况，其中第3集重点介绍了敦煌，让全世界注意到了敦煌文化和敦煌艺术。
2008年，日本放送协会推出《敦煌莫高窟：美的全貌》，集中展示了莫高窟30个代表洞窟面貌。2010年，敦煌研究院与中视传媒股份有限公司共同出品了大型人文纪录片《敦煌》，从国外探险家、莫高窟、藏经洞、壁画、彩塑、乐舞、丝绸之路、敦煌守望者等角度，展示了敦煌地区1000多年的历史和生活。该纪录片于同年在中国央视新闻频道首播，在社会上引起了极大反响。因为这部纪录片，许多人第一次知道了敦煌，继而成为敦煌文化的传播者和守护者。
此后，随着对敦煌文化的日益关注，中国陆续推出了系列敦煌纪录片，多角度讲述敦煌作为古代丝路重镇、东西方文明交流十字路口所蕴含的丰富的历史、艺术、科技和文化价值。
Dunhuang Documentaries
In 1954, the documentary Dunhuang Murals, directed by Xu Ke, was produced by the Central News Documentary Film Studio, marking the first Dunhuang-themed documentary in China. In 1980, The Silk Road, co-produced by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) and China Central Television (CCTV), premiered. This film explored the ancient Silk Road that connected Europe and Asia, showcasing its magnificent landscapes, adventurous stories, culture and arts, and the living conditions of those along the route. Its third episode focuses on Dunhuang, drawing global attention to Dunhuang culture and art.
In 2008, NHK released Dunhuang Mogao Caves: The Complete Beauty, which presented an overview of 30 representative caves at Mogao. In 2010, the Dunhuang Academy and China Television Media Co., Ltd. jointly produced the large-scale cultural documentary Dunhuang, showcasing over 1,000 years of history and life in the Dunhuang region from various perspectives, including foreign explorers, the Mogao Caves, the Library Cave, murals, sculptures, music and dance, the Silk Road, and the guardians of Dunhuang. It premiered on the CCTV News Channel the same year and exerted a significant impact on society. From this documentary, many learned about Dunhuang for the first time and subsequently became advocates and guardians of Dunhuang culture.
With the growing attention on Dunhuang culture since, China has successively launched a series of Dunhuang documentaries, which narrate the rich historical, artistic, technological, and cultural values embodied by Dunhuang as an ancient hub on the Silk Road and a crossroads for exchanges between Eastern and Western civilizations from multiple perspectives.
