Walking Through Henan, Understanding China
At the economic work conference in December 2021, the provincial authorities decided to launch a campaign on the theme of "Walking Through Henan, Understanding China."
According to the decisions made at the conference, Henan will carry out a mega IP project and create a "4+8+N" super IP matrix, both themed on the Chinese culture. In the matrix, the "4" refers to the "Sweet Home Henan" memory represented by the surname culture, the Yellow River civilization, the culture of the ancient capitals, and the Chinese martial arts represented by Taijiquan and the Shaolin kung fu. The "8" refers to the oracle-bone inscriptions that help trace the Chinese script, the Yangshao site that verifies the embryo of the Chinese civilization, the Erlitou site that represents China in its early stage, Luoyang of the Sui and the Tang dynasties that showcases the Chinese style, the culture of the Song Dynasty that represents Chinese aesthetics, the 24 solar terms that show how the ancient Chinese marked the passage of time, the indigenous Chinese philosophy of Daoism, and the Tang poems and Song lyrics that express the unique beauty of Chinese literature. The "N" encompasses an array of cultural IPs including cultural heritage sites (e.g. ancient cities, towns, passes and roads), natural views (e.g. Funiu, Taihang, and Dabie mountains), national ethos (e.g. related to the builders of the Hongqi Canal, the old revolutionary base in the Dabie Mountains, Jiao Yulu, and Yu Gong), and lifestyles (e.g. Chinese festivals, delicious food, and crafts of the Central Plains).
To help people learn more about the province and further understand China, Henan has also launched 16 cultural routes on such themes as the origins of humankind, the Chinese civilization, and China, the rivalry for the control of the Central Plains, the stories about the ancient sages, tracing family roots through surnames, the earliest classical philosophy, the harnessing of the Yellow River, technological inventions, the four ancient capitals, and the Chinese kung fu. These will enable the visitors from all countries to experience the powerful cohesion of the Yellow River civilization amid historical changes and the current ethos and outlook of the Chinese nation.
