优秀传统文化创造性转化、创新性发展
2013年11月，习近平在山东曲阜考察时指出，对历史文化特别是先人传承下来的价值理念和道德规范，要坚持古为今用、推陈出新，有鉴别地加以对待，有扬弃地予以继承。中共十九大报告将这一理念总结为“推动中华优秀传统文化创造性转化、创新性发展”。这一理念体现了中国共产党坚持守正创新的思想方法。
创造性转化，就是要按照时代特点和要求，对那些至今仍有借鉴价值的内涵和陈旧的表现形式加以改造，赋予其新的时代内涵和现代表达形式，激活其生命力；创新性发展，就是要按照时代的新进步新进展，对中华优秀传统文化的内涵加以补充、拓展、完善，增强其影响力和感召力。创造性转化是对历史形成的文化成果的转化，以“面向过去”为主，以实现中华优秀传统文化在价值理念、实质内容和表达形式等方面的现代转型；创新性发展以“面向未来”为主，提炼出中华优秀传统文化中符合未来社会形态的新内涵、新内容，是对既有文化成果的创新发展和思想超越。创造性转化是创新性发展的基础，创新性发展是创造性转化发展到一定阶段的必然结果。
全球文明倡议倡导“推动各国优秀传统文化在现代化进程中实现创造性转化、创新性发展”，就是要处理好文化传承、创新与发展的关系，以“守正不守旧、尊古不复古”的进取精神和科学态度，推动优秀传统文化更好地适应经济社会发展的新变化和新要求，更好地适应本国现代化进程，在“不忘本来”的传承、“吸收外来”的借鉴和“面向未来”的创新中，建设富有活力的现代文明。
Creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional culture
During his visit to Qufu, Shandong Province in November 2013, Xi Jinping pointed out that with regard to the Chinese history and culture, especially the values and moral norms handed down for generations, the people of today should apply the principle of making the past serve the present and bringing forth new ideas from the old, treating them with discernment and inheriting them with selection. The report to the 19th CPC National Congress summarized this idea as "creative transformation and innovative development of traditional Chinese culture". This explains the CPC's philosophy of upholding fundamental principles while breaking new ground.
Creative transformation means to restore vitality to concepts that still bear contemporary relevance and replace outdated forms with new ones. Innovative development means to supplement, expand, and improve the essence of the best of traditional culture to increase its influence and reach.
Creative transformation targets cultural products created in the past and modernizes traditional values, concepts, and means of expression. Innovative development is oriented toward the future and involves bringing new messages out of the best of traditional culture to cater to the current times and refining existing cultural products.
Creative transformation is the foundation of innovative development, and innovative development is an inevitable result of creative transformation evolving to a certain stage.
Creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional cultures is also part of the GCI, as a means to balance the relationships among preservation, innovation, and development. Countries must learn to uphold traditions without clinging to the past and respect ancient wisdom without reverting to archaic thinking. They should properly adapt the best of their traditional culture to their current economic and social development and to their modernization process. To build modern civilizations full of vitality, they should cherish their own cultural roots, draw on other cultures, and be forward-thinking.
